Set Up a Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) Using New Keys: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Use this procedure only if replacing the TDM using new vehicle keys.
The TDM must be replaced prior to beginning this procedure.

With Scan Tool

  1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
  2. With a new, unlearned, vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, select Theft Deterrent Module in the Vehicle Control Systems Module Setup data list.
  4. Select Step 1.
  5. Select Use New Keys.
  6. Follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.

Without Scan Tool

  1. With a new, unlearned, vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
  5. IMPORTANT: The engine controller learns the fuel continue password on the ignition switch transition from OFF to RUN. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
  6. Start the vehicle. The ECM has learned the fuel continue password.
  7. If additional keys are required to be learned, refer to Adding Keys .
