Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: Inspection

  1. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    1. Measure the resistance.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Standard resistance 

        RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 2.32 k to 2.59 kΩ
        1 - 2 80°C (176°F) 0.310 k to 0.326 kΩ
        NOTE: When checking the engine coolant temperature sensor in the water, keep the terminals dry. After the check, wipe the sensor dry.

        If the resistance is not as specified, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.
