System Outline

  1. Electronic Fuel Injection

This system controls the fuel injection timing according to the basic injection time. The basic injection time is calculated to fit the engine conditions and is corrected using signals from various sensors.

  2. Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent

This system controls the throttle opening according to the value calculated to fit the engine conditions after correcting it using signals from various sensors.

  3. Variable Valve Timing-intelligent

This system improves the engine output, reduces exhaust gas emissions and improves fuel consumption by varying the phases of the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft to match the engine conditions.

  4. Electric Fan Control

This system controls the ON/OFF switching and fan speed of the cooling fan according to the coolant temperature and the state of the air conditioner.

  5. Fuel Pump Control

This system turns the fuel pump ON and OFF according to the starter signal and engine speed signal. It can also stop the fuel pump operation in response to signals from the center airbag sensor assembly.

As well, it reduces the load on the air conditioner compressor during acceleration in order to maintain driveability.

  6. Cranking Hold Control

This system continues to supply electricity to the starter between when the cranking starts and the engine starts in order to prevent an engine start failure when the key switches off momentarily just before the engine's complete explosion.

  7. Oxygen Sensor Control

This system switches the oxygen sensor ON and OFF according to the coolant temperature and driving condition.

  8. Diagnosis

This system allows an accurate and detailed diagnosis of a failure to be carried out, such as by calling the SAE specified diagnosis code data and active tests using the diagnosis tool.

  9. Fail-Safe

When the ECM detects an abnormality in the sensor signals, this system either stops the engine or assumes control of it by using standard values stored in the ECM.
