Steering Column Assembly: Installation: Installation

  1. INSPECT STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY  See step  3
  2. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly.
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly.

      *1 Collar
      *2 Bushing

      HINT: 

      If the bushings are missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

    2. Install the steering column assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Bolt 

      Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) 

      Nut 

      Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the 2 bushings.
      • Do not line-up the bolt holes by prying on the collar or bushings. Do not install the bolt at an angle or apply any force to the bushings.

    3. Attach the wire harness clamps to the steering column assembly.
    4. There are two different bolt sizes (12 mm (0.472 in.) or 14 mm (0.551 in.)) available.
  4. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  5. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering intermediate shaft assembly.
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  6. INSTALL STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 2
  7. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING 
    1. Install the return spring.
  8. INSTALL LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 1
  9. INSTALL UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION

  10. INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET 
    1. Install the column hole cover silencer sheet with the 2 clips.
    2. Install the floor carpet.
  11. INSTALL COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using pliers, pinch the clamp and attach the claw to install the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly.
    2. Connect the connectors to the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  12. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    NOTE:

    If the steering column cover is installed incorrectly, it will not be possible to assemble the steering column cover.

    1. Attach the claw and 2 pins to install the upper steering column cover.
    2. Attach the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover.
    3. Attach the 4 claws.
    4. Attach the claw.

      HINT: 

      Press the area around the claw to attach it.

  13. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 3
  14. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION 

  15. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .

  17. INITIALIZE ROTATION ANGLE SENSOR AND CALIBRATE TORQUE SENSOR ZERO POINT 

    Refer to CALIBRATION

  18. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 

    Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
