Data List / Active Test

  1. DATA LIST 

    HINT: 

    Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

    NOTE:

    In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / (desired system) / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      POWER SOURCE CONTROL

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Shift P Signal* Shift position (P)/ON or OFF ON: Shift lever in P
      OFF: Shift lever not in P
      Use this item to determine if the shift position switch is malfunctioning.
      Steering Unlock Switch State of steering unlock sensor signal output from steering lock actuator assembly/ON or OFF ON: Steering unlocked
      OFF: Steering locked
      • When the shift lever is in P (for Automatic Transaxle) and the engine switch is off, if any door is opened or closed, the steering is locked.
      • When the electrical key transmitter is inside the vehicle and the engine switch is turned on (ACC) or on (IG), the steering unlocks.
      • The engine cannot be started when the steering unlock signal is off.
      Stop Light Switch1* State of brake pedal/ON or OFF ON: Brake pedal depressed
      OFF: Brake pedal released
      • Use this item to determine whether the stop light switch is malfunctioning.
      • The engine cannot be started when this item is "OFF".
      • When this item is malfunctioning, the engine can be started by pressing and holding the engine switch for a certain period of time.
      Start Switch1 Condition of engine switch contact 1/ON or OFF ON: Engine switch pressed
      OFF: Engine switch not pressed
      • If the engine switch is pressed for a short time, the display may not change.
      • Use this item to determine whether the engine switch input signal is malfunctioning.
      Start Switch2 Condition of engine switch contact 2/ON or OFF ON: Engine switch pressed
      OFF: Engine switch not pressed
      • This is the backup for engine switch contact 1.
      • This item behaves the same way as engine switch contact 1.
      Neutral SW/ Clutch SW Shift position (P, N) (for Automatic Transaxle) or state of clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle)/ON or OFF ON: Shift lever in P or N (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal depressed (for Manual Transaxle)
      OFF: Shift lever not in P or N (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal released (for Manual Transaxle)
      • Use this item to help determine if the park/neutral position switch (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch switch (for Manual Transaxle) is malfunctioning.
      • The engine cannot be started when this item is "OFF".
      Latch Circuit Condition of IG related backup circuit (IG hold circuit)/ON or OFF ON: Engine switch on (IG)
      OFF: Engine switch off
      • This item behaves in almost the same way as the IG1 and IG2 relays.
      • This item displays "OFF" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      IG1 Relay Monitor(Outside) IG1 relay activation/ON or OFF ON: IG1 relay on
      OFF: IG1 relay off
      As this is the IG1 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      IG1 Relay Monitor(Inside) IG1 relay activation/ON or OFF ON: IG1 relay on
      OFF: IG1 relay off
      As this is the IG1 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      IG2 Relay Monitor(Outside) IG2 relay activation/ON or OFF ON: IG2 relay on
      OFF: IG2 relay off
      As this is the IG2 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      IG2 Relay Monitor(Inside) IG2 relay activation/ON or OFF ON: IG2 relay on
      OFF: IG2 relay off
      As this is the IG2 relay ON signal, this item displays "OFF" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      Starter Request Signal Condition of engine start command signal/ON or OFF ON: Engine switch pressed and held while carrying electrical key transmitter with shift lever in P (for Automatic Transaxle) and brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) depressed
      OFF: Engine switch released after approximately 1 second elapses
      • This item displays "ON" when cranking the engine.
      • The engine cannot be started when this item is "OFF".
      ACC Relay Monitor ACC relay activation/ON or OFF ON: ACC relay on
      OFF: ACC relay off
      • This item displays "ON" when the engine switch is on (ACC).
      • This item displays "OFF" when cranking the engine.
      Engine Condition Condition of engine/Stop or Run Run: Engine running
      Stop: Engine stopped

      Vehicle Speed Signal Vehicle moving or stationary/Stop or Run Run: Vehicle moving at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more

      ACC ON: Engine switch on (ACC) (ACC relay on)
      IG1 ON: Engine switch on (IG) (IG1 relay on)
      IG2 ON: Engine switch on (IG) (IG2 relay on)
      ST ON: Cranking engine (ST request signal on)
      Since IG1 ON and IG2 ON turn "on" at approximately the same time, IG1 ON may not be displayed (IG1 ON turns on for a very short time).

      • Use this item when determining whether the IG2 relay is malfunctioning.

      Starter SW Sig Mismatch Engine switch signal 1 and 2 mismatch/Yes or No Yes: Switch malfunctioning (engine switch signal 1 and 2 do not match)
      No: Switch normal
      The engine can be started even if this item displays "Yes".

      HINT: 

      Get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter. With the engine switch off and the shift lever in P, perform the following procedures and check the power source mode. 

      *1: Without depressing the brake pedal, press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (ACC).

      *2: Without depressing the brake pedal, press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (IG).

      *3: Depress the brake pedal (the stop light switch turns on).

      *4: With the brake pedal depressed, press the engine switch and check that the engine starts.

      *5: Press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns off.

      *6: Release the brake pedal.

      *7: Open a door.

      HINT: 

      Get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter. With the engine switch off, perform the following procedures and check the power source mode. 

      *1: Without depressing the clutch pedal, press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (ACC).

      *2: Without depressing the clutch pedal, press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (IG).

      *3: Depress the clutch pedal (the clutch start switch turns on).

      *4: With the clutch pedal depressed, press the engine switch and check that the engine starts.

      *5: Press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns off.

      *6: Release the clutch pedal.

      *7: Open a door.

      Unset: Engine immobilizer unset (engine switch on [ACC] or on [IG])
      • When the immobilizer cannot be unset, this item can be used to determine whether the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) or ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) is part of the problem.
      • The engine cannot be started when this item displays "Set".
      HINT: 
      • The state of the immobilizer (whether it is set or unset) can be determined through the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly). If this item displays "Set", the communication between the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) can be determined to be normal.
      • The security indicator light operation is only linked with the state of the immobilizer (set/unset), and is not related to the steering lock operation (lock/unlock). When the immobilizer is set, the security indicator light blinks.

      • When this item displays "OK", the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) has received an unlock confirmation signal from the steering lock ECU and has permitted fuel injection and engine combustion.
      • The engine cannot be started when this item displays "NG".

      When a malfunction is present:
      • The ID code for the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) or ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) is not registered or the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) or ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) is malfunctioning.
      • The steering cannot be locked.
      • The steering cannot be unlocked (the engine cannot be started).

      When a malfunction is present:

      • If the unlock signal has not been received, the engine cannot be started.
      • If this item does not change to "OK" even though the steering unlock conditions are met, the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) may be malfunctioning.

      HINT: 

      Get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter. With the engine switch off, the shift lever in P (for Automatic Transaxle) and all the doors closed, perform the following procedures and check the power source mode. 

      *1: Without depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (ACC).

      *2: Without depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns on (IG).

      *3: Press the engine switch and check that the power source mode turns off.

      *4: Without depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), open the driver side door and check that the steering locks.

      STARTING CONTROL

      HINT: 

      *: With the engine switch on (IG), the shift lever in P and the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) depressed, press the engine switch and check that the engine starts.

  2. ACTIVE TEST 

    HINT: 

    Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / (desired system) / Active Test.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test.
    POWER SOURCE CONTROL

    When performing this Active Test, make sure the following condition is met:
    The engine switch is on (IG).
    SMART KEY

    Power/Engine SW Light Engine switch light ON/OFF When performing this Active Test, make sure the following condition is met:
    The engine switch illumination is off (15 seconds or more have elapsed since it turned from on to off) and the engine switch is on (ACC) or on (IG), or the engine is running.
    STARTING CONTROL
