Operation Check
- OPERATION DESCRIPTION
- Entry ignition function:
- When the electrical key transmitter is in the detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) is depressed, the engine is started by pressing the engine switch.
- When the electrical key transmitter is in the detection area inside the vehicle and the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) is not depressed, the power source mode is changed by pressing the engine switch. The power source mode changes in the following order every time the engine switch is pressed: off → on (ACC) → on (IG) → off.
- After getting into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter when the engine switch is off, if the engine switch is pressed while not depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), the power source mode changes to ACC and the engine switch indicator illuminates in amber.
- After getting into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter when the engine switch is off, if the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) is depressed while the shift lever is in P or N (for Automatic Transaxle), the engine switch indicator illuminates in green.
- The engine starts if the engine switch is pressed when the engine switch indicator is illuminated in green.
- Changing the power source mode when the electrical key transmitter does not operate correctly due to wave interference or electrical key transmitter battery depletion:
- Unlock the door using the built-in mechanical key and get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter.
- While depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), hold the ornament side of the electrical key transmitter against the engine switch.
- When a buzzer sound is heard from the buzzer, release the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) within 5 seconds. By pressing the engine switch while not depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle), the power source mode changes in the following order every time the engine switch is pressed: off → on (ACC) → off.
- Starting the engine when the electrical key transmitter does not operate correctly due to wave interference or electrical key transmitter battery depletion:
- Unlock the door using the built-in mechanical key and get into the vehicle while carrying the electrical key transmitter.
- While depressing the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) with the shift lever in P or N (for Automatic Transaxle), hold the ornament side of the electrical key transmitter against the engine switch.
- When a buzzer sound is heard from the buzzer and the engine switch indicator illuminates in green, press the engine switch within 10 seconds while keeping the brake pedal (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal (for Manual Transaxle) depressed to start the engine.
- Entry ignition function:
- CHECK ENTRY IGNITION FUNCTION
- Check the entry ignition function.
- With the engine switch off, move the shift lever to P, depress the brake pedal*1 or clutch pedal*2 while carrying the electrical key transmitter and check that the engine switch indicator illuminates in green. Then, with the engine switch indicator illuminated in green, press the engine switch and check that the engine starts.
- *1: for Automatic Transaxle
- *2: for Manual Transaxle
- With the brake pedal released and the engine switch off, press the engine switch while carrying the electrical key transmitter and check that the power source mode changes as follows: off → on (ACC) → on (IG) → off. However, if the shift lever is in any position other than P while the engine switch is on (IG), the power source mode will not change to off, but to on (ACC).
- Stop the vehicle, press the engine switch and check that the power source mode changes to off (the engine stops and all electrical systems are off). However, if the shift lever is in any position other than P, even if the engine switch is pressed while the vehicle is stationary, the power source mode will not change to off, but to on (ACC). Move the shift lever to P, open the door and check that the steering lock operates.
- Inspect the entry ignition operating range (front). Place the electrical key transmitter on the front seat at either inspection point so that it is facing in the direction shown in the illustration and check that the engine can be started.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*a Inspection Point NOTE:- Even if the electrical key transmitter is within the vehicle interior detection area, the electrical key transmitter may not be properly detected if it is on the instrument panel, in the glove box, in the rear seat cup holder or on the floor.
- Communication may not be possible if the electrical key transmitter is within 0.2 m (0.66 ft.) of the shift lever.
- The engine control system cannot be started when the electrical key transmitter is on the instrument panel or in the glove box.
HINT:
Perform the inspection for both inspection points.
- Inspect the entry ignition operating range (rear). Place the electrical key transmitter on the rear seat at either inspection point so that it is facing in the direction shown in the illustration and check that the engine can be started.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*a Inspection Point NOTE:- Even if the electrical key transmitter is within the vehicle interior detection area, the electrical key transmitter may not be properly detected if it is on the instrument panel, in the glove box, in the rear seat cup holder or on the floor.
- Communication may not be possible if the electrical key transmitter is within 0.2 m (0.66 ft.) of the center of the rear seat cushion.
HINT:
Perform the inspection for both inspection points.
- Inspect the entry ignition operating range (luggage). Place the electrical key transmitter at either inspection point and check that the engine can be started.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

HINT:
Perform the inspection for both inspection points.
- Check the entry ignition function.
- CHECK POWER SOURCE MODE CHANGING FUNCTION
- Check the engine switch.

(Excludes condition in which engine can be started)Illuminated in amber Condition in which engine can be started* Illuminated in green Engine started Off HINT:
*: CONDITION IN WHICH ENGINE CAN BE STARTED IS AS FOLLOWS:The engine can be started by pressing the engine switch when either of the following conditions is met. Condition 1 All conditions are met: - The key is verified* or the engine switch is on (ACC) or on (IG).
- The shift lever is in P or N (for Automatic Transaxle).
- The stop light switch (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal switch (for Manual Transaxle) is on.
Condition 2 All conditions are met: - The power source mode has changed from on (IG) to on (ACC).
- The shift lever is in N (for Automatic Transaxle).
- The stop light switch (for Automatic Transaxle) or clutch pedal switch (for Manual Transaxle) is on.
- *: When the electrical key transmitter is in the vehicle, the ID code sent as a result from communication between the electrical key transmitter and certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and the ID code calculated by the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) are compared. If the ID codes match each other, the vehicle recognizes that the electrical key transmitter is in the vehicle.
- Indicator Condition Chart
Indicator Vehicle State Off Either condition is met: - The engine is running.
- The engine switch is off and the vehicle is in a state in which the engine does not start if the engine switch is pressed.
