Steering System - Power: Description
The Subaru power steering system has 2 different types with the difference being in the steering column. The XT type has a tilt and telescopic steering wheel which utilizes a different power steering pump and control valve than the non XT type. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
The basic components are relatively the same, consisting of a fluid reservoir, power steering pump, pressure and return fluid lines, control valve and rack and pinion assembly. The power steering pump applies fluid pressure to the control valve which assists in the turning of the wheels.
