Cruise Control Systems: Description

System operation is activated by an instrument panel mounted main switch, and a steering wheel mounted control switch. When the desired speed is achieved, it is set with the control switch. That speed is recorded by a micro-computer and compared to actual road speed recorded by the speedometer. Vacuum, supplied by a pump, is metered to an actuator which controls throttle position.

The XT model actuator is mounted in the engine compartment and activates the throttle with a link assembly. All other models have the actuator mounted on the pedal support bracket.

Switches mounted on the clutch (if equipped) and brake pedals are also used to cancel operation of the cruise control system.

NOTE: The operational range for the cruise control system is 25-155 MPH.
