Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

Inhibitor Switch:

PURPOSE
Informs the ECU when transaxle is in neutral or park.

LOCATION
On transaxle case, operated by shift linkage.

OPERATION
When the transaxle is shifted into neutral or park, the shift fork allows the inhibitor switch to close. When the switch closes, it completes a path to ground, signaling the ECU that the transaxle is in neutral or park.
