Alternator Output Test

  1. Connect test equipment to alternator according to appropriate illustration. Connect an ammeter, voltmeter, 0-.25-ohm/1-kW variable resistor, 2 single-pole switches (SW 1 and SW 2), .25-ohm/25-watt resistor and a 12-volt test light. See Figure.
  2. Set variable resistor to minimum resistance position. Close switches SW 1 and SW 2. Keep voltage constant by adjusting variable resistor while raising alternator RPM. Alternator output should measure as shown in ALTERNATOR OUTPUT SPECIFICATIONS  table.
