How To Troubleshoot
- Follow the methods below to troubleshoot the cruise control functions.
- *: Use the SSM4.
- Before performing all diagnostics or cruise control diagnostics, start the engine to check the initial illumination of ABS/VDC warning light turns off. (If you start the diagnostics before performing the procedures above, the cancel code "43" is recorded and CRUISE indicator does not illuminate even though the CRUISE switch is pressed.)
- When performing diagnosis, observe the legal speed limit on the road.
- The cancel code will also appear when the cruise control is cancelled by the driver's operation. Do not confuse them.
- Be sure to get an assistant to support the diagnosis while driving, and have him/her operate the select monitor.
- Bring in the car
- Battery voltage check
- Turn IG SW to OFF to check the battery.
Standard voltage: 11 to 14 V
NOTE: When the voltage is below 11 V, replace or charge the battery before the next step.
- Turn IG SW to OFF to check the battery.
- Check CAN communication system.
- Check CAN communication system. (Refer to
HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT
)
Criteria: No fault is found.
NO: Repair according to the check of CAN communication system.
YES: GO to next step
- Check CAN communication system. (Refer to
HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT
)
- Check malfunction indicator light.
- Make sure the malfunction indicator light illuminates.
Criteria: No illumination
NO: Go to Step 8.
YES: GO to next step
- Make sure the malfunction indicator light illuminates.
- Check CRUISE indicator light.
- Check the illumination of the CRUISE indicator.
Criteria: No yellow illumination
NO: Go to Step 10.
YES: GO to next step
- Check the illumination of the CRUISE indicator.
- Check CRUISE switch operation.
- Check the CRUISE switch operation. (Check the illumination of the CRUISE indicator.)
Criteria: CRUISE switch turns on (CRUISE indicator illuminates)
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 1 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check the CRUISE switch operation. (Check the illumination of the CRUISE indicator.)
- Check cruise control set operation.
- Check the cruise control setting operation.
Criteria: The cruise control can be set while driving at 40 km/h {25 MPH} or more.
NO: Go to Step 10.
YES: GO to next step
Go to Step 11.
- Check the cruise control setting operation.
- Check DTC
- Read all DTCs using SSM4.
Criteria: The engine or ABS/VDC related DTC displays.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 2 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Read all DTCs using SSM4.
- Check freeze frame data.
- Record the DTC displayed.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the Freeze Frame Data or Information in Trouble State.
Criteria: The Freeze Frame Data or Information in Trouble State is recorded.
NO: Perform the diagnosis according to the engine or ABS/VDC related DTC.
YES: GO to next step
Record the data. Perform the diagnosis according to the engine or ABS/VDC related DTC.
- Check cancel code.
- Using SSM4, read the cancel codes.NOTE:
- Do not turn the ignition switch to OFF after the cruise control is deactivated.
- Do not operate the cruise control command switch after the cruise control is deactivated.
If the above is performed, the cancel code will be cleared.
Criteria: Cancel codes are not recorded.
NO: Perform diagnosis according to the cancel codes.
YES: GO to next step
- Using SSM4, read the cancel codes.
- Check set indicator.
- Check the illumination of the SET indicator.
Criteria: SET indicator illuminates.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 3 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check the illumination of the SET indicator.
- Check vehicle speed is held within set speed.
- Vehicle speed is held within set speed ±3 km/h {±2 MPH}.NOTE: Check on level ground.
Criteria: Speed is held.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 4 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Vehicle speed is held within set speed ±3 km/h {±2 MPH}.
- +RES operation check
- Check +RES switch operation.
Criteria: The vehicle speed increases or returns to set speed after +RES switch has been pressed.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 5 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check +RES switch operation.
- -SET operation check
- Check -SET switch operation.
Criteria: The vehicle speed decreases after -SET switch has been pressed.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 6 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check -SET switch operation.
- Cancel operation check
- Check the CANCEL switch operation.
Criteria: Cruise control is released after CANCEL switch has been pressed.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 7 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check the CANCEL switch operation.
- Check cruise control release operation.
- Check the cruise control release operation.
Criteria: Cruise control is released after brake pedal has been depressed.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 8 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check the cruise control release operation.
- Check cruise control release operation.
- Check the cruise control release operation.
Criteria: Cruise control is released after shifting to the neutral position.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 9 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
- Check the cruise control release operation.
- Check cruise control release operation.
- Check the cruise control release operation.
Criteria: Cruise control is released after clutch pedal has been depressed.
NO: Perform Diagnostics with Phenomenon 10 (Refer to DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON )
YES: GO to next step
