Side Airbag Module: Installation

CAUTION:
  • Refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag system components. Ref. to  AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION  
  • Do not reuse the mounting nuts of the airbag module. Be sure to replace the self-locking nuts with new ones. 
  • Make sure that the side airbag module is installed as shown in the figure.

  1. Before installation, inspect the following items and replace any faulty part with a new one.
    • Make sure that there is no foreign matter on side airbag module.
    • Front seat, airbag module and mounting bracket are damaged or deformed.
    • Harness and/or connector is cracked, deformed or open.
    • Harness wire is exposed.
  2. Using a new self-locking nut, install the side airbag module.

    Tightening torque: 

    6 N.m (0.6 kgf-m, 4.4 ft-lb)

  3. Assemble the front seat. Ref. to SEATS>FRONT SEAT>ASSEMBLY
    CAUTION:

    After restoring the seat, operate the reclining and sliding mechanisms to check that the side airbag harness is not caught. 

  4. Install the belt assembly front INN. Ref. to SEAT BELT SYSTEM>FRONT SEAT BELT>INSTALLATION>BELT ASSEMBLY FRONT INN
  5. Install the front seat. Ref. to SEATS>FRONT SEAT>INSTALLATION
  6. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY
  7. If the passenger's seat is removed, perform [Rezeroing] in the occupant detection system. Ref. to AIRBAG (DIAGNOSTICS)>REZERO
  8. If the passenger's seat is removed, perform "Occupant Detection System Inspection" to check if the occupant detection system operates normally. Ref. to SEAT BELT SYSTEM>SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM>INSPECTION
