Curtain Airbag Module
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
- Remove the trim panel sub assembly.
- Sedan model: Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>ROOF TRIM>REMOVAL>SEDAN MODEL .
- OUTBACK model: Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>ROOF TRIM>REMOVAL>OUTBACK MODEL .
- Disconnect the curtain airbag module connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>AIRBAG CONNECTOR>PROCEDURE .
- Activate the curtain airbag module.
Preparation tool:
ST1: AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT TOOL (98299PA030)
ST2: TEST HARNESS ADAPTER D (98299SA010)
- Short the terminal to the alligator clip furnished as ST1.CAUTION: ST1 should be kept shorted on the terminals until just before activation of airbag module.
- Connect the ST1 with ST2.
- Connect the ST2 to the curtain airbag module.
- Make sure there is no one inside the vehicle.
- Extend the wiring of ST1 to the limit, and close all the windows and sunroof completely.
- Move the battery at least 5 m (16 ft) from the vehicle, and confirm safety in the area.
- Connect the ST1 alligator clip to the battery negative (-) terminal.
- Connect the other cable of ST1 to the battery positive (+) terminal, and activate the airbag module.
CAUTION:- After activation, the airbag module will be extremely hot. Let it cool down for at least 40 minutes in an area with no one around.
- Do not expose the activated airbag module to water.
- Short the terminal to the alligator clip furnished as ST1.
- Remove the bolts and clips, and remove the curtain airbag module.
- Place the activated airbag module in a sealed vinyl bag, then discard.
NOTE:
When necessary, fold the fabric part of airbag into three or four sections, rope and seal in a vinyl bag.
