Outback Model

CAUTION: Always refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag system components. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    NOTE: For models with the power seat, move the seat to the front-most position before removing the battery ground terminal.
  3. Remove the trim panel sub assembly. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>ROOF TRIM>REMOVAL>OUTBACK MODEL .
  4. Remove the curtain airbag module.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage the curtain airbag module during removal.
    • Do not cut the tape wrapped around the curtain airbag module.
    • Do not reuse any clips and spacers if they are removed from the vehicle once.
    • Remove the modules in order starting from the vehicle front.
    NOTE: Remove the securing clip of curtain airbag module in the following procedures.
    1. Using a pair of nippers, cut off section (a) of the clip bushing.
    2. Remove the clip pin while holding the lock (b) with needle nose pliers.
    3. Release the locks (c) of the clips bushing at two locations at the top and bottom completely using thin flat head screwdriver (d), and remove the clip bushing.

    1. Disconnect the curtain airbag module connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>AIRBAG CONNECTOR>PROCEDURE>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE, FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND CURTAIN AIRBAG MODULE .

    2. Remove all the bolts and clips, and remove the curtain airbag module.

      Meaning of pictograms indicated on the label
    (a) Do not disassemble the airbag module.
    (b) Before handling, always refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" in "AIRBAG SYSTEM" in the service information.
    For the disposal procedures of the airbag modules, refer to "Airbag Module Disposal".
    (c) Flammable explosive substance encapsulated parts; be careful of handling.
    (d) Indicates that this part is an airbag module.
