Fuel Pressure Test

  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE in the previous heading. Attach Pressure Gauge Set (09912-58412) at fuel filter inlet union. See Fig 1 . Start engine and ensure that there is no leakage at pressure gauge connection.
  2. Measure and record fuel pressure with pump operating and engine off. Start engine. Measure and record fuel pressure with engine idling. Fuel pressure for both procedures should be 34.1-39.8 psi (2.4-2.8 kg/cm2 ). Turn fuel pump off and allow one minute for pressure to reduce. Minimum fuel pressure should be 21.3 psi (1.5 kg/cm2 ).
  3. If pressure is not within specification, check for defective fuel pump, pressure regulator or restriction in fuel system. Repair as necessary. Remove pressure gauge and start engine to ensure that no fuel leakage exists.
