Coolant (Water) Temperature Sensor

On Samurai and Sidekick, coolant temperature sensor is located on side of intake manifold. On Swift DOHC, sensor is located on side of cylinder head. On Swift SOHC, sensor is located on side of throttle body.

Coolant temperature sensor thermistor changes resistance with respect to temperature. High temperature causes low resistance. Low temperature causes high resistance. A reference voltage (supplied and monitored by ECM) is modified by sensor resistance. ECM uses this information to help determine control (output) signals to injector(s), emission components and timing devices (Samurai and Swift DOHC).
