Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

PCM supplies throttle position sensor with a 5-volt reference signal. Sensor contains both a potentiometer (variable resistor) and an idle switch. Throttle position sensor sends PCM a potentiometer output signal corresponding to throttle valve opening and idle switch signal that turns on only when throttle is in idle position. PCM uses these signals to help determine control of air/fuel ratio during acceleration, deceleration and idle.
