BLANK ECM FAILS TO PROGRAM
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
Reference Number(s): TS 07 10218, Date of Issue:
October 21, 2008
| SUZUKI: | 2007~ SX4 |
| SECTION: | Engine |
CONDITION
ECM fails to program within a 5 minute time frame and Suzuki ECU Programming System (SEPS) shows an error code.
CAUSE
Precautions found on the next page, which are also located in the operators manual for SEPS, have not been followed.
CORRECTION
Please write down error code. Make sure all below precautions are followed and program the ECU again. If the ECM still fails to program please contact the S.M.A.R.T hotline (refer to Administrative Bulletin SA-02R for contact information).
NOTE:
If a part number appears which matches another vehicle model ECM during programming setup, please contact S.M.A.R.T hotline before continuing programming.
1. Precautions
- Read the following instructions carefully before using the Suzuki ECU Programming System (SEPS).
- Be sure the battery is fully charged. The battery voltage should be 11V or more.
- Do not start the engine during the programming process.
- Do not program the calibration data in ECU with the battery charger connected to the vehicle battery. The battery charger may cause variation in the system voltage, which will stop the execution of the ECU programming and cause damage to ECU.
- Turn off all electric loads such as headlights and air conditioner. (If equipped with DRL, set the parking brake. This turns off the DRL.)
- Follow the instruction of the programming software to turn on or off the ignition switch.
- While the ECU programming is executed by the programming software, do not touch the pass-thru device including the communication cables. If the cables used for the communication with the vehicle and PC are disconnected, the ECU programming may fail and ECU may be damaged.
- In case of using the portable (laptop) PC, be sure it is sitting on a hard stable surface, fully charged and/or plugged in. If you hold the PC in your hands or on your lap, the communication cables might be disconnected resulting in the ECU damage.
- Connect the communication cables securely to prevent the communication cables from disconnecting resulting in the ECU damage.
- Perform the ECU program when the ECU temperature is between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius (between 32 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit) to prevent ECU programming failure.
- Be sure to use the following precautions to prevent electrical noise affects during the ECU programming.
- Stop any instrument with a built-in motor such as an electric drill which uses brushes.
- Do not turn on or off any instrument such as an illumination lamp.
- Do not start or race the engine of another vehicle near the vehicle being programmed.
- When the ECU program is completed, execute the following procedure.
- Make sure that you have the Suzuki Diagnostic Tool (SDT) with the latest diagnostic software installed.
- Clear all diagnostic trouble codes of all electronic control systems (AT, ABS, etc.) by using Suzuki Diagnostic Tool.
- Make sure that the engine starts.
- Be sure to read the listed appendix for the important instructions to be followed before and after the ECU program.
- Before performing the ECU programming, check the target ECU for any DTC. If any DTC is detected, make a note and check for same DTC after programming.
