Firmware Reinstall - Toolbox: Procedure

NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is operating firmware version 2020.36.11 or newer before proceeding. If vehicle firmware is older than 2020.36.11, update the firmware. See Firmware Update .
  1. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
  2. Connect a 12V support charger to make sure power is not lost during the firmware reinstall.
CAUTION: Make sure the charger supports lead acid 12V batteries. Connecting a 15V charger can damage the vehicle and/or the charger.
  3. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  4. In Toolbox, click the Actions/Autodiag tab  , and then type "Redeploy" in the search field.
  5. Run  the appropriate routine and wait for the reinstallation to complete. Reinstallation status can be monitored on the vehicle touchscreen.
    • Service CAN Redeploy (UPDATE_CAN-REDEPLOY):  A "partial" firmware reinstallation that reinstalls the currently installed firmware package to all module, ECU, and component replacements, with the exception of the MCU, IC, and DAS/FSD module.
    • Service Redeploy (UPDATE_SERVICE-REDEPLOY):  A "full" firmware reinstallation that reinstalls the currently installed firmware package to all module, ECU, and component replacements, including the IC and DAS/FSD module.
  6. Verify that the firmware package was successfully installed.
    • If the reinstall failed, repeat from step  4.
    • If the reinstall succeeded, and the reinstall was performed as one step of another service procedure, return to that procedure.
    • If the reinstall succeeded, and the reinstall was performed as a stand-alone procedure, continue to the next step.
  7. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  8. Disconnect the 12V support charger.
  9. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
