WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2020 Tesla Model S, 2019 Tesla Model S, 2018 Tesla Model S, 2017 Tesla Model S, and 2016 Tesla Model S. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect) .
- Enable Service Mode through the touchscreen. See Service Mode .
- On the vehicle touchscreen, touch CAN Viewer
and select the signals STW_ANGLHP_STAT > StW_AnglHP
and EPAS_sysStatus > EPAS_torsionBarTorque
.NOTE: STW_ANGLHP_STAT > StW_AnglHP can be found under CH bus. EPAS_sysStatus > EPAS_torsionBarTorque can be found under CH bus on Intel MCU's, and under ETH bus on Tegra MCU's.
- Turn the steering to the left lock stop and hold the EPAS_torsionBarTorque value at 10 N.m while reading the angle. Record this value.
- Turn the steering to the right lock stop and hold the EPAS_torsionBarTorque value at 10 N.m while reading the angle. Record this value.
- If the two angle values are more than 6 degrees apart, center the steering wheel. See Steering Wheel (Remove And Replace) .
