Ignition System: Distributor: Installation
- Remove spark plug from cylinder No. 1. Place finger over spark plug hole. Turn crankshaft clockwise until pressure is felt. This indicates cylinder No. 1 is coming up to TDC of compression stroke. Align timing marks at flywheel opening above starter. Install spark plug. Turn oil pump shaft slot about 25 degrees from perpendicular to engine block. See Fig 1.
- Coat NEW "O" ring with oil and install onto distributor housing. Install distributor by aligning distributor mounting flange with hold-down bolt hole on engine and positioning rotor at about 11 o'clock position. See Fig 2. When distributor is fully seated into engine, rotor should be at about 10 o'clock position. Install distributor hold-down bolt and align scribe marks made during removal.
- Connect distributor electrical connector. Install distributor cap. Install spark plug wires to plugs and coil. Install air cleaner hose and ventilation hoses. Connect battery negative cable. Set ignition timing. Tighten distributor hold-down bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (17 N.m).
