Ignition System: Distributor: Installation

  1. Verify timing mark on crankshaft pulley is aligned with "0" mark on timing cover. If necessary, remove cylinder head cover. Verify 1-dot and 2-dot timing marks on camshaft gears are in line with cylinder head surface.
  2. Coat NEW "O" ring with oil and install onto distributor housing. Install distributor by aligning groove on distributor housing with protrusion on top of drive gear teeth. See Fig 2. When distributor is fully seated into engine, rotor should be at about 11 o'clock position. See Fig 1.
  3. Connect distributor electrical connector. Install distributor cap. Connect negative battery cable. Set ignition timing. Tighten distributor hold-down bolt to 13 ft. lbs. (18 N.m).
