Using Scan Tool
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3. See Figure. Turn ignition and scan tool on. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and freeze frame data.
- If scan tool is able to connect and communicate with the vehicle, go to next step. If scan tool displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE, try scan tool on another vehicle. If scan tool still displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE, check for defective scan tool. If scan tool operates correctly on another vehicle, check for proper voltage and resistance at DLC No. 3. See DLC NO. 3 SPECIFICATIONS table. See Fig 1. If voltage or resistance is not within specification, check wiring to DLC No. 3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .DLC NO. 3 SPECIFICATIONS
Terminals No. Condition Specification 7 (1) During Communication Pulse Generation 4 & Body Ground (2) Constantly 1 Ohm Or Less 16 & Body Ground (3) Constantly 9-14 Volts (1) Terminal No. 7 is signal line and terminal No. 5 is signal ground on DLC No. 3. (2) Terminal No. 4 goes from DLC No. 3 to body ground. (3) Terminal No. 16 is battery voltage on DLC No. 3. - If any DTCs are retrieved, see ENGINE IMMOBILIZER DTC DEFINITIONS table for DTC definition and possible causes, and then proceed to appropriate DTC test listed under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . Once all repairs are performed, clear DTCs from Engine Control Module (ECM). See CLEARING CODES .
