Trunk Light Does Not Work

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove and inspect bulb for broken filament. Replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
  2. Checking Trunk Light Fixture

Remove trunk light fixture. Using DVOM, check for continuity between light fixture terminals. With bulb installed and switch in ON position, continuity should exist. With switch in OFF position, continuity should not exist. If continuity is not as specified, replace bulb or light fixture. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Checking Trunk Courtesy Switch

Using DVOM, check for continuity between switch terminal and switch body. With switch released, continuity should exist. With switch depressed, continuity should not exist. If continuity is not as specified, replace door courtesy switch and retest system. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Testing Body Control ECU

Check all voltage inputs to body control ECU. See BODY CONTROL ECU  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If any voltage inputs are not as specified, repair affected circuit and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If all voltage inputs are as specified, substitute known-good body control ECU and retest system. If system now works properly, replace body control ECU. If system still does not work, recheck all related system wiring and connections.
  5. Testing Trunk Light Circuits

Using DVOM, check continuity in Pink/Blue wire between trunk light fixture and DOME fuse. If continuity does not exist, reverse test leads and recheck for continuity. A diode exists in circuit and will only allow continuity in one direction. If continuity does not exist in either direction, repair open circuit in Pink/Blue wire between trunk light fixture and DOME fuse. If continuity does exist in one direction, check for open circuit in Red/White wire between trunk light fixture and trunk light switch. Repair as necessary.
