Test A: Only Wireless Control Function Inoperative

Prior to performing test, ensure following conditions are met:

  1. Press any remote transmitter button 3 times or more. If remote transmitter indicator light illuminates 3 times or more, go to next step. If remote transmitter indicator light does not illuminate each time button is pressed, check remote transmitter battery. See BATTERY CAPACITY CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Replace battery if necessary. After repair, recheck system operation.
  2. Observe dome light operation. If dome light is on, go to next step. If dome light is not on, repair dome light or wiring as necessary. After repair, go to next step.
  3. Enter self-diagnostic mode using following procedure:
    • Insert key in ignition switch. Within 5 seconds, cycle ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions once. Remove key from ignition switch. Go to next step.
    • Within 30 seconds, cycle ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions 9 times.

Dome light should blink to verify system is in diagnostic mode. If dome light blinks, go to next step. If dome light does not blink, go to step  8.

  4. With system in diagnostic mode, press and hold LOCK or UNLOCK button. Monitor dome light response. Fig 1. If normal or no diagnosis output is observed, go to next step. If discord of discrimination code (also referred to abnormal output or DTC) is observed, go to step  7.

  5. Using known operating remote transmitter, point transmitter toward vehicle at distance of about one meter and press LOCK or UNLOCK button for about one second . Dome light should flash to verify correct control receiver function. If dome light flashes, replace suspect remote transmitter. If dome light does not flash, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check DOME fuse (10-amp) located in underhood junction block. Replace fuse if faulty. Disconnect wireless door lock control receiver harness connector. Using DVOM, check wireless door lock control receiver circuit at harness connector as indicated. See Figure. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL RECEIVER CIRCUIT TEST  table. If problem is found, repair wiring or connector as necessary. If wiring and connector are okay, replace wireless control receiver and retest system. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.

  7. Program replacement wireless entry transmitter(s). See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. After programming wireless remote transmitter, go to next step. If wireless remote transmitter cannot be programmed, replace multiplex network body ECU. See appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS article. After repair, recheck wireless entry system operations.
  8. Re-enter diagnostic mode. See step  3. Go to next step.
  9. Check unlock warning switch. See POWER DOOR LOCKS - TRUCKS article. Replace unlock warning switch, if necessary. If unlock warning switch is okay, replace multiplex network body ECU. See appropriate MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS article. After repair, recheck wireless entry system operations.
