Security Indicator Light Circuit
CAUTION:
If Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement is instructed in following test, always ensure ECM electrical connectors and ground circuits are okay. For ECM ground circuits, see ENGINE PERFORMANCE article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If either are defective, repair and repeat testing to confirm ECM malfunction.
- Disconnect electrical connector for SECURITY indicator light. SECURITY indicator light is located on the dash, just to the left of steering column, next to instrument panel light control knob. See Figure. Using jumper wires, connect positive battery terminal to terminal No. 3 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 1 on electrical connector for SECURITY indicator light and check operation of SECURITY indicator light. See Fig 1. If SECURITY indicator light comes on, go to next step. If security indicator light does not come on, replace SECURITY indicator light.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between Engine Control Module (ECM) and SECURITY indicator light, and between ground connection and SECURITY indicator light. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . ECM is located behind passenger's side kick panel, just below instrument panel. See Figure.
- If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay and engine immobilizer cannot be set, proceed to next item to be inspected. See TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS table under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay and engine immobilizer can be set, replace ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure ignition keys are registered to the ECM. See IGNITION KEY REGISTRATION under PROGRAMMING.
