Door Unlock Detection Switch

  1. Remove door panel for access to appropriate door lock assembly which contains the door lock motor and door unlock detection switch. See Figure.
  2. To check door unlock detection switch on driver's side front door or passenger's side front door, go to next step. To check door unlock detection switch on driver's side rear door or passenger's side rear back door, go step  4. To check door unlock detection switch on back (rear liftgate) door, go step  5.
  3. On driver's side front door or passenger's side front door, disconnect the 6-pin electrical connector at door lock assembly. Note electrical terminal identification on door lock assembly and switch positions. See Fig 1. Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 4 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4 with switch in UNLOCK position. Replace door lock assembly if continuity is not as specified.
  4. On driver's side rear door or passenger's side rear door, disconnect the 4-pin electrical connector at door lock assembly. Note electrical terminal identification on door lock assembly and switch positions. See Fig 1. On driver's side rear door, using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 3 and 4 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4 with switch in UNLOCK position. On passenger's side rear door, using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in UNLOCK position. On all applications, replace door lock assembly if continuity is not as specified.
  5. On back (rear liftgate) door, disconnect the 4-pin electrical connector at door lock assembly. Note electrical terminal identification on door lock assembly and switch positions. See Fig 1. Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in LOCK position and that continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2 with switch in UNLOCK position. Replace door lock assembly if continuity is not as specified.
