Section 587 (Instrument Panel): Removal

  1. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE

    1. Remove the 4 screws and front door scuff plate.
    2. Use the same manner described above to the other side.
  2. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD

    1. Remove the nut and cowl side trim board.
    2. Use the same manner described above to the other side.
  3. REMOVE SIDE PANEL 
  4. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH

    1. Remove the assist grip.
      1. (1) Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 assist grip plugs.
        NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
      2. (2) Remove the 2 screws and assist grip.
    2. Remove the front pillar garnish.
    3. Use the same manner described above to the other side.
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVERS (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  8. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH 

    Disconnect the 4 connectors, remove the 3 screws and combination switch.

  9. REMOVE LOWER FINISH PANEL

    1. Remove the 2 screws and hood lock release lever.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts and lower finish panel.
  10. REMOVE SWITCH BASE

    Using a screwdriver, lift up the switch base and remove it.

    NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  11. REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 

    Remove the 2 screws and cluster finish panel.

  14. REMOVE COMBINATION METER

    1. Remove the 4 screws.
    2. Remove the combination meter and disconnect the 4 connectors.
  15. REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL PANEL

    1. Remove the 2 screws as shown in the illustration.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the integration panel, then disconnect the connectors.
      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  16. REMOVE RADIO TUNER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the 8 bolts and radio tuner assembly.
  17. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  )

  18. DISCONNECT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR

    NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
    1. Using a clip remover, disengage the connector clamp.
    2. Disconnect the connector as shown in the illustration.
  19. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR

    Remove the 2 screws and glove compartment door.

  20. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 FINISH PANEL 

    Remove the 3 screws and lower No. 2 finish panel.

  21. REMOVE SHIFTING HOLE COVER

    1. 4WD:

      Remove the transfer shift lever knob.

    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the shifting hole cover.
      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  22. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL

    1. w/ Seat heater:

      Using a screwdriver, remove the seat heater switches, then disconnect the connectors.

      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the power mirror control switch, then disconnect the connector.
      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the upper console panel.
      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  23. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX

    1. w/ Rear heater A/C:

      Using a screwdriver, remove the rear heater control panel, then disconnect the connector.

      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
    2. w/ Headphone terminal.

      Using a screwdriver, remove the headphone terminal, the connector.

    3. w/ Rear seat entertainment:
      1. Remove the disc bracket.
      2. Remove the 3 bolts and disc player.

      3. Disconnect the connector.
    4. Remove the 4 bolts and rear console box.
  24. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX POCKET

    Using a screwdriver, remove the console box pocket.

    NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  25. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX 

    Remove the 2 bolts, 2 clips and front console box.

  26. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT COVER

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 3 screws.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the lower instrument cover.
      NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  27. REMOVE PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 bolts holding the front passenger airbag assembly and instrument panel.

      Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) 

    2. Remove the 1 bolt holding the front passenger airbag assembly and instrument panel reinforcement.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

      CAUTION:
      • Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment side facing down.
      • Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.
  28. REMOVE NO. 4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
  29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL

    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove instrument panel.
  30. REMOVE CENTER HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
  31. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT

    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the screw and running light relay.
    3. Remove the 3 bolts, nut and No. 1 brace.
    4. Remove the bolt, nut and No. 2 brace.
    5. Remove the 3 bolts, 4 nuts and instrument panel reinforcement.
