Ignition Timing: Inspection

  1. WARM UP ENGINE 

    Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.

  2. CHECK IDLE SPEED (See  IDLE SPEED   ) 
  3. CONNECT TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE 

    Connect the timing light clip to the black lead wire.

    NOTE: Use a timing light that can detect the primary signal.

  4. INSPECT IGNITION TIMING 
    1. Using SST, connect terminals TC and CG of the DLC3.
      1. SST 09843-18040

    2. Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.
      1. Ignition timing:10 +/- 2° BTDC at idle 

      (Transmission in neutral position)

    3. Remove the SST from the DLC1.
  5. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING 
    1. Ignition timing: 6 - 16° BTDC at idle 

    (Transmission in neutral position) 

    HINT:

    The timing mark moves in a range between 6° and 16°.

  6. DISCONNECT TIMING LIGHT FROM ENGINE
