Instrument Panel Sub-ASSY Lower: Replacement

HINT:

  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

    HINT: Indicate the bolts, screws and nuts, which are necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel, in the illustration and the text with alphabets.

  2. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (SEE  SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM  ) 
  3. INSPECT CENTER FRONT WHEEL 
  4. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

    SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

  6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  7. REMOVE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY (SEE  HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY  ) 
  8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY (SEE  WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY  ) 
  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips and 3 claws.
    2. Disconnect connector, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center.

  10. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY W/BRACKET (W/O NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE  RADIO RECEIVER ASSY  ) 
  11. REMOVE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY W/BRACKET (W/NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (SEE  NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSY  ) 
  12. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE) 
    1. Turn the shift lever sub-assy counter clockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assy.
  13. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSY CTR 
    1. Power point socket models only:

      Disengage the 5 claws and remove the switch base.

    2. Remove the control knob.
    3. Remove the screw < E >.
    4. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 clips and 7 claws, then pull out the instrument cluster finish panel assy CTR.
    5. Disconnect the connectors.

  14. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY (SEE  AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY  ) 
  15. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX 
    1. Open the instrument panel box.
    2. Pull the instrument panel box upward to remove it.

  16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER 
    1. M/T Transaxle:

      Remove the 3 screws < E >.

    2. A/T Transaxle:

      Remove the 5 screws < E >.

    3. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claws, then remove the instrument panel finish lower center.

    HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  17. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT ASSY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE) (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  18. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT, SHIFT LEVER ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE) (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  19. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH 
    1. Disengage the 9 claws, then remove the front door scuff plate LH.

  20. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  21. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH 
    1. Remove the cowl side trim clip.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws, then remove the cowl side trim board LH.

  22. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH 

    HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  23. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR STOPPER SUB-ASSY 
    1. Open the glove compartment door.
    2. Remove the screw < G > and glove compartment door stopper sub-assy.

  24. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY 
    1. Deform the upper part of the glove compartment door assy to release the stoppers.
    2. Pull the glove compartment door assy upward to remove it.

  25. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  26. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 5 claws and 3 clips, then remove the meter hood sub-assy.

  27. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the screw < E >.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws as shown in the illustration.

    3. Disconnect connector, then remove the combination meter assy, as shown in the illustration.

  28. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips and 2 claws.
    2. Pull out the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.

  29. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH 
    1. Disengage the 3 clips and 2 claws, then remove the front pillar garnish LH.

  30. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH 

    HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  31. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
    1. Remove the 3 screws < E > and bolt < A >.
    2. Disengage the 3 clips and 9 claws.
    3. Pull the instrument panel sub-assy upper rearward to remove it.
    4. Disconnect the connectors.

  32. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER 
    1. Disconnect the hood lock control cable and DLC3 connector.
    2. Using a clip remover, remove the 4 clips.
    3. Remove the 7 bolts < B > or < C >, < D > and 4 screws < E >, < F >.
    4. Disengage the wire harness 4 clamps.
    5. Remove the instrument panel sub-assy lower.

  33. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL CENTER NO.2 
    1. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws.
    2. Pull out the instrument cluster finish panel center No.2.
  34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL CENTER NO.1 
  35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BOX 
  36. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACKET SUB-ASSY CENTER 
  37. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
    1. Install the instrument panel sub-assy upper, 3 screws < E > with bolt < A >.

      Torque: 

      Bolt: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

  38. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  39. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
  40. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  41. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  42. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  43. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
