Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH
    1. Disconnect the cruise control main switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 3 of the cruise control main switch connector when the cruise control main switch is operated.

      Resistance

      TERMINAL 1 AND 3 (RESISTANCE)

      Switch position Resistance (Ω)
      Neutral 10 kΩ or higher
      +/RES 210 to 270
      -/SET 560 to 700
      CANCEL 1,380 to 1,700
    3. Check continuity between terminals 1 and 3 of cruise control main switch connector when the main switch is held on and off.

      Resistance

      TERMINALS 1 AND 3 (CONTINUITY)

      Switch position Tester connection Specification
      OFF 1 - 3 10 kΩ or higher
      ON 1 - 3 Below 1 Ω
    4. Check continuity between terminals 1 and 2 of cruise control main switch connector when the mode switch is operated.

      Resistance

      TERMINALS 1 AND 2 (CONTINUITY)

      Switch position Tester connection Specification
      MODE 1 - 2 Below 1 Ω

NG: REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH - ECM)
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between cruise control main switch and ECM (See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS ).

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH - BODY GROUND)
    1. Check for an open or short circuit in harness and connector between cruise control main switch and body ground (See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS ).

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  4. INSPECT ECM
    1. Remove the ECM with connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between terminal CCS (E5-24) of ECM and body ground, when cruise main switch is operated.

      Voltage

      CCS (E5-24) AND BODY GROUND

      Switch position Voltage
      Neutral 10 to 16 V
      CANCEL 6.6 to 10.1 V
      -/SET 4.5 to 7.1 V
      +/RES 2.3 to 4.0 V
Main switch ON Below 1 V

    4. Measure the voltage between terminal CCHG (E6-28) of ECM and body ground, when cruise control main switch is operated.

      Voltage

      CCHG (E6-28) AND BODY GROUND

      Switch position Voltage
      MODE Below 1 V
      Neutral 10 to 14 V
