Can Communication System: Precaution

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS ON STEERING SYSTEM
    1. Care must be taken when replacing parts. Incorrect replacement could affect the performance of the steering system and result in hazardous driving.
  2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS ON SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM
    1. The SOLARA is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as the driver airbag and front passenger airbag. Failure to carry out service operation in the correct sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious accident. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read the precautionary notice for the Supplemental Restraint System (See PRECAUTION ).
  3. WIRE HARNESS REPAIR
    1. After repairing a bus wire with solder, wrap the repaired part with electrical tape.

      NOTE:
      • The CANL bus wire and CANH bus wire must be installed together at all times.

When installing, make sure to twist them. CAN bus wires are likely to be influenced by electrical noise if the bus wires are not twisted.

      • The difference in length of the CANL bus wire and CANH bus wire should be 100 mm (3.94 in.) or less.
      • Untwisted parts around the connectors should be 80 mm (3.15 in.) or less.
    2. Do not perform bypass wiring between the connectors.
NOTE: If bypass wiring is used, the ability of the twisted bus wires to resist interference will be lost.

  4. CONNECTOR HANDLING
    1. When checking resistance with a tester, insert the tester probes from the backside (harness side) of the connector.

    2. If it is impossible to check resistance from the back of the connector, use service wires to check it.
  5. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE
NOTE: When disconnecting the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the terminal is reconnected.
