Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Laser Cruise / Data List.
    5. Check the Data List for proper functioning of the cruise control main switch.

      ECM (Laser Cruise): 

      ECM SPECIFICATION

      Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      CCS Main SW M-CPU Main switch signal (Main CPU)/ON or OFF ON: Main switch on
      OFF: Main switch off
      -
      Cancel Switch CANCEL switch signal/ON or OFF ON: CANCEL switch on

      SET/COAST Switch - (COAST)/SET switch signal/ON or OFF ON: - (COAST)/SET switch on
      OFF: - (COAST)/SET switch off

      RES/ACC Switch + (ACCEL)/RES switch signal/ON or OFF ON: + (ACCEL)/RES switch on
      OFF: + (ACCEL)/RES switch off
      -

      OK: 

      When cruise control main switch operation is performed, the result will be the same as above.

      NG (1 to 3 items are defective) C

    A : PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    C : REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH 

    B: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the cruise control main switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 (ECC) - A-2 (R/N), A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) Neutral 10 kΩ or higher
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME) 235 to 245 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) - (COAST)/SET 617 to 643 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) CANCEL 1509 to 1571 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) Main Switch on Below 2.5 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-2 (R/N) Main Switch on and MODE Switch on Below 2.5 Ω

    NG: REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the z1 connector from the spiral cable.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-3 - z1-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-2 - z1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-1 - z1-4 Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE 
    NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT:

    1. Remove the spiral cable.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Spiral Cable Position Specified Condition
      z1-1 - D15-5-7 Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      z1-3 - D15-1 Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      z1-4 - D15-2 Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right

      HINT:

      The spiral cable makes a maximum of approximately 5 rotations.

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - ECM) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      CCS (D15-1) - CCS (A55-40) Always Below 1 Ω
      CCS (A55-40) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      ECC (D15-2) - E1 (B50-81) Always Below 1 Ω
      R/N (D15-7) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R/N (D15-7) - CCHG (A55-37) Always Below 1 Ω
      CCHG (A55-37) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D15-2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK : REPLACE ECM
