System Outline

The cruise control system is a constant vehicle speed controller which makes it possible to automatically adjust the opening of the engine throttle valve without depressing the accelerator pedal, but by operating a SW instead.

Set Operation

When the ON-OFF SW is turned on, the system begins the preparations necessary for the cruise control to operate and turns on the indicator light in the combination meter.

Set Speed Control

If the - SET SW is pressed when the cruise ON-OFF SW is on and the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle is maintained at the current speed.

Coast Control

When the - SET SW is pressed and held down while driving with the cruise control active, the engine control module adjusts the throttle valve to gradually decelerate the vehicle.

Also, every time the - SET SW is pressed briefly, the vehicle will decelerate by approximately 1.6 km/h.

Accel Control

When the + RES SW is pressed and held down while driving with the cruise control active, the engine control module adjusts the throttle valve to gradually accelerate the vehicle.

Also, every time the + RES SW is pressed briefly, the vehicle will accelerate by approximately 1.6 km/h.

Resume Control

If the vehicle speed was above the low speed limit (Approx. 40 km/h, 25 mph) when the cruise control was cancelled, pressing the + RES SW will accelerate the vehicle and resume the speed that was set before the cruise control was cancelled.

Manual Cancel Mechanism

If any of the following signals are input while driving with the cruise control active, the cruise control will be canceled.

* The stop light SW is turned on

* The CANCEL SW is turned on

* The ON-OFF SW is turned off

* The gear is shifted from the D or 4 position to a position other than D or 4.

Auto Cancel Function

If any of the following conditions are detected, the cruise control will be canceled:

* A failure in the stop light SW wiring

* An abnormality in the vehicle speed signal

* A malfunction in the electronically controlled throttle parts

* The vehicle speed drops below the low speed limit.

* The vehicle speed drops to 16 km/h or more below the set speed.

* The VSC begins to operate.

Shift-Down Control

When the vehicle climbs a hill while driving with the cruise control active, the gear may be shifted down by the A/T control. When the hill climb is judged to have finished, based on the throttle opening information, the gear will be shifted up after a set time.
