Rear Speed Sensor: Inspection: Procedure

  1. INSPECT SENSOR OUTPUT VALUE
    NOTE:

Resistance inspection using other testers may cause damage to the rear speed sensor internal circuit. Be sure to use the Techstream to inspect the rear speed sensor.

    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
    3. Select the following PIDs using the Techstream:
      • WSPD_SEN_LR (LR wheel-speed sensor)
      • WSPD_SEN_RR (RR wheel-speed sensor)
    4. Start the engine and drive the vehicle.
    5. Verify that the display of the Techstream shows the same value as the speedometer.
      • If there is any malfunction, replace the rear speed sensor.

        Refer to REMOVAL

  2. INSPECT INSTALLATION VISUAL
    1. Inspect for the following:
      • If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the part.
      1. Excessive play of the rear speed sensor
      2. Deformation of the rear speed sensor
      3. Deformation or damage of the ABS sensor rotor
      4. Adhering foreign matter
  3. INSPECT CLEARANCE
    1. Remove the rear speed sensor.
    2. Measure the distance between the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor installation surface and the ABS sensor rotor. This is dimension A.

      *a Clearance
      *b 14 mm (0.55 in)
      *c ABS Sensor Rotor
      *d Rear Speed Sensor
    3. Calculate the clearance between the rear speed sensor and the ABS sensor rotor using the following formula: Clearance (mm (in)) = A-14 (0.55)
    4. Verify that the clearance between the rear speed sensor and ABS sensor rotor is as indicated below.
      • If not within the specification, replace the rear speed sensor.

        Refer to REMOVAL

      Clearance
