Shift-Lock System: Inspection: Procedure
- INSPECT SHIFT-LOCK SYSTEM
- Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
- Shift the selector lever to the P position
- Verify that push button cannot be pressed in and the selector lever cannot be shifted from the P to R position when the brake pedal is not depressed.
- If it can be verified, go to the next step.
- If not as verified, inspect the following parts:
- Shift-lock solenoid

- Park/Neutral position switch
See step 4
- Brake switch

- ECM
Refer to INSPECTION
- Shift-lock solenoid
- Verify that the selector lever can be shifted from P to R position while the push button is pressed with brake pedal depressed.
- If it can be verified, go to the next step.
- If not as verified, inspect the following parts:
- Shift-lock solenoid

- Park/Neutral position switch

- ECM

- Shift-lock solenoid
- INSPECT SHIFT-LOCK SOLENOID
HINT:
The shift-lock solenoid is built into the selector lever component.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
- Perform the following procedure to remove the selector lever knob.
HINT:
If the servicing is difficult, release the shift lock manually and shift the selector lever to the N position.
- Insert the tool (width: 4 mm (0.2 in.) or less, thickness: 1 mm (0.04 in.) or less) as shown in the figure.
*a Selector Lever Knob *b Tool *c Lock Release Button Cover - Move the tool in the direction of arrow (1) in the figure and detach the hook. Move the lock release button cover in the direction of arrow (2) in the figure and remove it.
*a Tool *b Lock Release Button Cover *c Hook - Remove the spring.
*a Spring - Remove the selector lever knob.
*a Selector Lever Knob
- Insert the tool (width: 4 mm (0.2 in.) or less, thickness: 1 mm (0.04 in.) or less) as shown in the figure.
- Remove the following parts:
- Center console tray

- Console side panel

- Reconnect the negative battery cable.

- Verify that the voltages of each of the selector lever component terminals are as indicated in the table.

- If the voltage can be verified as indicated in the table, replace the selector lever component.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- INSPECT SHIFT-LOCK OVERRIDE BUTTON
- Switch the ignition off.
- Verify that the selector lever is in the P position.
- Without the brake pedal depressed, verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted from the P position.
- Remove the shift-lock override cover using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.
*a Cover *b Shift-Lock Override Button - Insert the flathead screwdriver and press the shift-lock override button.
- Verify that the selector lever can be shifted from the P position.
- If not as verified, replace the selector lever.

- If not as verified, replace the selector lever.
- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
HINT:
The Park/Neutral position switch is built into the selector lever component.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Perform the following procedure to remove the selector lever knob.
HINT:
If the servicing is difficult, release the shift lock manually and shift the selector lever to the N position.
- Insert the tool (width: 4 mm (0.2 in.) or less, thickness: 1 mm (0.04 in.) or less) as shown in the figure.
*a Selector Lever Knob *b Tool *c Lock Release Button Cover - Move the tool in the direction of arrow (1) in the figure and detach the hook. Move the lock release button cover in the direction of arrow (2) in the figure and remove it.
*a Tool *b Lock Release Button Cover *c Hook - Remove the spring.
*a Spring - Remove the selector lever knob.

- Disconnect the selector lever component connector.
*a Selector Lever Component Connector - Verify that the continuity between selector lever component terminals 4 and 5.
- If not as verified, replace the selector lever component.

PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH SPECIFICATIONTest condition Continuity Selector lever is in the P position. No continuity Selector lever is not in the P position. Continuity - If not as verified, replace the selector lever component.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
