Hybrid Battery SOC Indicator does not Come ON [09/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HEALTH CHECK) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    5. Check DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output A
      DTCs are output B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    Result:

  2. CHECK FOR VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    6. Check for Vehicle Control History.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle Control History not stored A
      Vehicle Control History stored B
    7. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY 

    Result:

  3. CHARGE HV BATTERY (PLUG-IN CHARGE) 
    1. Connect the electric vehicle charger cable assembly to a known good AC power supply and plug-in charge the vehicle until the HV battery is fully charged.

      HINT: 

      The charging indicator illuminates when plug-in charging starts, and turns off when charging is complete.

    2. After the HV battery is fully charged, disconnect the electric vehicle charger cable assembly.

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (HYBRID/EV BATTERY SOC INDICATOR 1 STATUS, SOC INDICATOR 2 STATUS, SOC INDICATOR 3 STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Data List / Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 1 Status, Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 2 Status, Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 3 Status.

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 1 Status
      Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 2 Status
      Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 3 Status
    5. Connect the electric vehicle charger cable assembly to a known good AC outlet and then connect the charging connector to the vehicle.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Data List

      Hybrid/EV Battery SOC Indicator 1 Status Hybrid battery SOC indicator 1 status ON or OFF Hybrid battery SOC indicator 1 illuminated: ON

      HINT: 

      If the HV battery is already fully charged when the electric vehicle charger cable assembly is connected, all 3 of the SOC indicators will illuminate for approximately 15 seconds.

    7. Disconnect the electric vehicle charger cable assembly.
    8. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (PLUG-IN CHARGE CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [09/2016 - ]

  5. INSPECT INDICATOR LIGHT ASSEMBLY (HYBRID BATTERY SOC INDICATOR) 

    Refer to INSPECTION [09/2016 - ]

    REPLACE INDICATOR LIGHT ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2016 - ]

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER ASSEMBLY - INDICATOR LIGHT ASSEMBLY (HYBRID BATTERY SOC INDICATOR)) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the EV charger duct. (for Type A)

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 21 [09/2016 - 05/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 28 [05/2019 - 07/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 28 [07/2020 - ]

    3. Disconnect the N74 electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the G9 indicator light assembly (Hybrid battery SOC indicator) connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N74-26 (INL1) - G9-3 (INL1) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      N74-27 (INL2) - G9-2 (INL2) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      N74-7 (INL3) - G9-1 (INL3) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N74-26 (INL1) or G9-3 (INL1) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      N74-27 (INL2) or G9-2 (INL2) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      N74-7 (INL3) or G9-1 (INL3) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    6. Reconnect the G9 indicator light assembly (Hybrid battery SOC indicator) connector.
    7. Reconnect the N74 electric vehicle charger assembly connector.
    8. Install the EV charger duct. (for Type A)

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INDICATOR LIGHT ASSEMBLY (HYBRID BATTERY SOC INDICATOR) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the G9 indicator light assembly (Hybrid battery SOC indicator) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G9-5 (LP) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    3. Reconnect the G9 indicator light assembly (Hybrid battery SOC indicator) connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [09/2016 - ]
