Steering Gear Boot Removal And Installation/Replacement

Mobile Repair Possible:  No

Removal Procedure: 

The procedure for the left-hand component is identical to that for the right-hand side. 

  1. Remove front wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

  2. Make sure that the wheels are pointed directly forward.
  3. Loosen the steering tie rod locknut (1).

  4. Use a wrench to unscrew the inner tie rod (1) completely.

  5. Separate inner tie rod (1) from outer tie rod (2).

  6. Remove nut (1).
  7. Remove the clamp (2) and the steel band clamp (3).

  8. Guide out the steering gear boot (1) from the inner tie rod and from the steering gear and remove.

Installation Procedure:

  1. Push the steering gear boot (1) onto the steering gear (2).

  2. Position the clamp (1) and the steel band clamp (2) as shown and fasten with suitable pliers.

  3. Connect the inner tie rod (1) with outer tie rod (2).

  4. Use a wrench to turn the inner tie rod (1) to adjust the toe to the specified value. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT MEASUREMENT AND SPECIFICATIONS
  5. Tighten the tie rod lock nut (1).

    Torque: 65 Nm 

  6. Install front wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  7. Diagnostics, Programming and Setup. Refer to DIAGNOSTICS, PROGRAMMING AND SETUP USING SCAN TOOL IN SERVICE
