Fuel Injector Check

  1. To check for defective fuel injector, start engine and allow it to idle. Loosen high-pressure fuel line banjo bolt at first fuel injector and listen for decrease in engine speed (RPM). Re-tighten bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 N.m). Repeat procedure for each fuel injector.
  2. If fuel injector is operating properly, engine RPM should decrease when high-pressure fuel line banjo bolt is loosened. If a faulty fuel injector is suspected, check fuel injector and circuit. See FUEL INJECTORS & CIRCUITS under FUEL SYSTEM in appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article.
