Determining Shim

The specified bearing preload is achieved if the bearing preload of 0.12 mm and the settling amount of 0.10 mm is added to the figure obtained from the measurement.

Example:

• "start" Measured Value = 0.60 mm
• "add" Preload = 0.12 mm
• "add" Settling allowance = 0.10 mm
• "equals" Thickness of shim to be installed = 0.82 mm

Unbolt transmission housing and remove differential from torque converter housing.

On vehicles up to 12.95, press taper roller bearing outer race out of torque converter housing. See Fig 1 .

On vehicles from 01.96 and on, pull taper roller bearing outer race out from torque converter housing. See Fig 2 .
