Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface J533 On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Initiating
- Connect Scan Tool to DLC. See Fig 1 .
- Switch on ignition. Indicated on display:
- VAG - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) HELP
- 1- Rapid data transfer
- 2 - Blink code output
NOTE: If nothing is indicated on display, check voltage supply for VAG 1551 scan tool. Additional instructions can be called up via the HELP button on the scan tool. - The forward (right arrow) button is used for advancing through the program sequence. Function 00 "Automatic test sequence" can be performed in operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer". This automatically checks all control modules installed in the vehicle.
- Switch printer on via the "PRINT" button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
- Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1. Indicated on display:
- Rapid data transfer HELP
- Enter address word XX
- Press buttons -1- and 9- to input address word 19 "Gateway". Indicated on display:
- Rapid data transfer Q
- 19 - Gateway CAN-Bus
- Press "Q" button to confirm input. Indicated on display:
- Rapid data transfer Q
- Scan tool sends address word 19
- Indicated on display:
- 6N0909901 Gateway K CAN 0001
- Coding 00002 WSC 00000

- Upper line: ID no. of Control module, system identification (Gateway K CAN), and version number
- Bottom line: Coding number (depends on control modules connected to CAN-Bus), and Work Shop Code (Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface-J533- in instrument cluster is designated as 'Gateway' in On Board Diagnostic).
- Press right arrow button. Indicated on display:
- Rapid data transfer HELP
- Select function XX
- Pressing the HELP button will print out an overview of all of the possible functions. See AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS .
