DSG® Oil Level, Checking: Notes
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) VAG1331
- Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device VAG1782
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, for example, VAS5051
- Drip Tray for VAS6100 VAS6208
- Adapter for Oil Filling VAS6262A
- Adapter for Filling ATF Oil VAS6262/2
- Adapter for Oil Filling VAS6262/6 (Also for some oil containers)
Note the following information:
- Use the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG®) oil available as a replacement part.
- The Adapter For Oil Filling VAS6262/6 must also be used on some containers.
- It may be necessary to shorten the pipe on the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS6262A, refer to Fig 2.
Shorten the Pipe on the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS6262A as Follows:
-- Shorten the pipe to 210 mm -a-. This assures the pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling VAS6262A will not touch the bottom of some containers.
Dimension -a- is measured starting from the green surface in the cap on the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS6262A.
-- Shorten the pipe using the Pipe Cutter VAS6056/2.
Requirements:
- The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.
- The noise insulation has been removed.
- The vehicle diagnostic tester is connected
- The oil should not be warmer than 45°C (113°F) when starting the procedure.
- Test temperature: 35-45°C (95-113°F)
Checking
-- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions .
-- Select DSG transmission .
-- Select Check Fluid Level .
Allow the transmission to cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45°C (113°F).
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the "P" position.
-- Move the drip tray or the Used Oil Collecting And Extracting Device VAG1782 under the transmission near the oil drain and check plug.
-- Remove the oil drain and check plug -arrow-.
-- Always replace the seal -arrow- on the plug.
Even if the oil level is too low, at first a small amount of oil will leak out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.
-- Allow the excess oil to drain.
-- Install the plug with a new seal as soon as all the oil has drained out (it starts to drip).
-- If no oil comes out, then fill with oil.
