Tire Pressure Monitoring: Function
The TPMS is a component of the software in the ABS Control Module -J104-. "Tire Pressure Loss Indicator" DTCs are stored in the ABS Control Module -J104-.
The TPMS requires resetting after:
- Changing the tire pressure
- Changing one or several wheels
- Rotating tires
After resetting, the system will learn the tire characteristics at different speed intervals. It stores these for comparison purposes.
When the comparisons indicate changes to tire characteristics, the Tire Pressure Monitoring Display Indicator Lamp -K220- will illuminate.
The rolling circumference and the vibration characteristics can change due to:
- Low tire pressure
- Tire damage
- Loading too heavy on one side
- Using snow chains
- Wheel replacement
- More stress on one axle, for example, in towing mode
- Driving with the temporary spare wheel
