Control Module/Digital Sound System Amplifier, Removing And Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Amplifier -R12-, Removing. Refer to Amplifier -R12-, Removing  below.

Bracket for Amplifier -R12-, Removing. Refer to Bracket for Amplifier -R12-, Removing  below.

Installing. Refer to Installing  below.

NOTE:

Familiarity with the function and operation is needed if there are customer concerns.

For additional information. Refer to the Owner's Manual and the appropriate Wiring Diagram.

Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester for repair work or Fault Finding.

Check all vehicle equipment (clock, convenience systems, etc.) after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING and/or the Owner's Manual.

If the control module is being replaced, select the Replacing  function for the respective control module in Guided Fault Finding  using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Amplifier R12 View

The Amplifier -R12- -1- serves to expand the sound of the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-.

The Amplifier -R12- -1- is a 10-channel amplifier.

The signal inputs -2- on the Amplifier -R12- -1- are activated via the speaker outputs of the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-.

The Amplifier -R12- -1- is installed under the left front seat.

Amplifier -R12-, Removing 

-- Raise the front seat into its highest position and then move it all the way back.

-- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.

-- If equipped remove the ignition key.

-- Unlock the rear left and right cover -1- in direction of -arrow A-.

-- Pull the cover forward -1- in direction of -arrow B-.

-- Remove the bolts -4- from the Amplifier -R12- -2-.

-- Pull the Amplifier -R12- -2- out just far enough until the connector -3- is accessible.

-- Release and disconnect the connector -3- from the Amplifier -R12- -2-.

-- Remove the Amplifier -R12- -2- completely.

Installing 

NOTE:

When installing, make sure the Amplifier -R12- -1- is pushed in correctly into the mount -2- on the module carrier.

Install in reverse order of removal.

-- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification.

NOTE:

Make sure the cover is mounted correctly on the front edge of the module carrier when installing it.

Lock the cover by the left and right rear catches.

Tightening Specifications 

Component Tightening Specification
Amplifier -R12- to the bracket 6 Nm

-- Remove the screws -1- on the center tunnel and remove the bolts -2- (6 Nm) on the bracket.

-- Remove the module carrier -5-.

-- Remove the nuts -3- on the bracket.

-- Remove the bracket -4-.

Installing 

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening Specifications 

Component Tightening Specification
Screws -1- on the center tunnel 1.2 Nm
Bolts -2- on the bracket 6.0 Nm
Nuts -3- on the bracket 6.0 Nm
