Transmission, Installing: Installing

-- Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .

-- Lightly lubricate the pin and splines on the transmission.

Refer to the Electronic Parts Information (ETKA) for the allocation.

-- Insert the alignment sleeves -A-.

-- Make sure that the intermediate plate is seated correctly.

Conditions

• Guide the engine and transmission together by hand until the engine flange and transmission flange come into contact with one another all around.

-- Position the transmission support, until the engine and transmission align.

-- Turn the crankshaft into position.

-- Attach the transmission to the engine.

-- Tighten the bolts -arrows-.

Vehicles with diesel engines:

-- Install the air duct pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, PERFORMANCE CLASS 3 , or AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, PERFORMANCE CLASS 1 AND 2 .

-- Install the fan shroud with the radiator fan. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, GOLF, TIGUAN, TAYRON, ARTEON, T-ROC AND PASSAT .

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Install the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME WITH STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with washer fluid reservoir on the left side:

-- Install the windshield washer fluid reservoir. Refer to WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for all vehicles

AWD Vehicles:

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , or DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (R MODEL, TORQUE SPLITTER) .

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the drive axles. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the screen -1- from the transmission fluid cooler -2- using a commercially available screwdriver.

-- Clean the screen -1- and insert.

-- Attach the coolant hoses to the transmission fluid cooler.

-- Connect the connectors.

-- Secure the selector lever cable to the transmission. Refer to Selector Lever Cable, Removing and Installing  .

-- Refer to Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting (Bolted Cable Retainer) , or Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting (Clamped Cable Retainer)  .

-- Install the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Vehicles with diesel engines:

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to the appropriate service information .

Continuation for all vehicles

Vehicles with Gasoline Engine:

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Check the coolant level. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Install the left front wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

If the transmission was replaced:

-- Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING  and if necessary fill the transmission fluid.

-- Perform the "Adapting installation information" function using the Vehicle diagnostic tester . Refer to DIAGNOSTIC ENTRY .
