Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module J764, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- If the electronic steering column lock control module is replaced perform the test plan for replacing the electronic steering column lock control module using the Vehicle diagnostic tester .
Risk of damaging the electronic steering column lock control module due to wrong procedure. Before removing the steering column the following condition must be met:
- Discharge the static electricity, quickly touch the door striker.
- The wheels must be in the straight position.
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting .
-- Bring wheels in the straight position.
-- Pull the lever on the side of the steering column downward.
-- Push the steering column as far down as possible and remove it.
-- Push the lever on the side of the steering column upward again.
-- Remove the Steering Column Electronics Control Module -J527-. Refer to Steering Column Electronics Control Module J527, Removing and Installing .
-- Release and detach the wiring guide -1- for the wire -2- on the steering column -3-.
-- Unclip the wire bracket -3- for the wire -2-.
-- Disconnect the connector -4- from the electronic steering column lock control module -5-.
-- Saw open the bracket -1- using suitable service equipment in the area of the bolts -2-.
-- To do so saw open the bracket -1- vertically -A arrows- and saw it horizontally -B arrows-.
-- Pry out the bracket -1- with a suitable flat-head screwdriver.
-- Remove the bracket -1- from the steering column -3-.
-- Apply a notch all along the center of the entire bolt heads -2- using a suitable metal saw -arrows-.
-- Position a suitable flat-head screwdriver on the notch and remove the bolts -2-.
Condition
- Make sure no other components are damaged when inserting the tools.
- Make sure no shavings enter the components.
-- Thoroughly clean off the shavings.
-- Remove the electronic steering column lock control module -1- from the steering column -4-.
