BACKGROUND

To prevent contamination from reaching the probe's reference air, new routing has been developed for sensor wiring.

If one oxygen sensor is replaced, the new adapter wiring must be installed for both sensors.

MOUNTING HEATED O2 SENSOR

Heated O2 sensor, mounting

  1. Preparation (see Fig 1 )
    1. Turbocharged engines

      Remove:

      • Fresh air intake hose between air cleaner (ACL) housing and turbocharger (TC).
    2. Naturally aspirated engines

      Remove:

      • the preheating hose.

  2. Removing/installing heated O2 sensor (see Fig 2 )

Remove the front heated O2 sensor. Use tool no. 999 5543

Install a new heated O2 sensor.

NOTE: AWD. Replace front O2 sensor from the engine compartment.

  3. Installing adapter wiring
NOTE: The illustrations only illustrate one of the adapter wiring systems, but the same method applies to both front and rear O2 sensor.

When replacing the heated O2 sensor adapter wiring (A), which is included in the kit, install it between the existing cable harness and the heated O2 sensor. See Fig 3 .

Form the adapter wiring (A) into a loop.

Install a tie strap as illustrated in Fig 4 .

NOTE: Ensure that the ends (B) of the adapter wiring protective sheath point downwards so that moisture does not gather in the protective sheath.

This illustration (see Fig 4 ) displays a late version of the heated O2 sensor cable bracket. (Early type bracket is shown in the next step.)

On AWD cars the cable for the front heated O2 sensor should be routed over the fresh air intake hose.

NOTE: Ensure that the ends of the adapter wiring protective sheath point downwards so that moisture does not gather in the protective sheath.

This illustration (see Fig 5 ) displays an early version of the heated O2 sensor cable bracket.

  4. Installing fresh air intake hose (see Fig 1 )
    1. Turbocharged engines

      Install fresh air intake hose.

    2. Naturally aspirated engines

      Install preheating hose.

      Erase diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
