Power Seat Switch

  1. Connect Volvo Scan Tool (998-8686-3) to Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Monitor power seat control module status.
  2. Operate power seat switch in forward and backward directions. Status should change from NOT ACTIVE to ACTIVE when switch is pressed. If status changes, go to step  5 . If status does not change, go to next step.
  3. Check for poor or loose connections at 16-pin Yellow (or Green) connector for control module. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  4. If Breakout Box (981-3190) with Adapter (981-3194) is connected to power seat control module, go to step  12 . See Figure . If breakout box is not connected to power seat control module, go to step  10 .
  5. Operate power seat back rest backward and forward. Status should change from NOT ACTIVE to ACTIVE when switch is pressed. If status changes, go to next step. If status does not change, go to step  3 .
  6. Operate rear of power seat up and down. Status should change from NOT ACTIVE to ACTIVE when switch is pressed. If status changes, go to next step. If status does not change, go to step  3 .
  7. Operate front of power seat up and down. Status should change from NOT ACTIVE to ACTIVE when switch is pressed. If status changes, go to next step. If status does not change, go to step  3 .
  8. Operate memory buttons. Status should change from NOT ACTIVE to ACTIVE when switch is pressed. If status changes, go to next step. If status does not change, go to step  3 .
  9. Symptom not found. Check for intermittent open or short in wiring or poor connections.
  10. Connect Breakout Box (981-3190) with Adapter (981-3194) to 16-pin Yellow (or Green) connector. See Figure . See DIAGNOSTIC UNIT VOLTAGE & GROUND PIN CHECK  table. Use DVOM to measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 36 and 37 on breakout box. If DVOM indicates zero resistance, go to step  14 . If any resistance is indicated, go to next step.
  11. Repair open between controller and control module 16-pin connector terminals No. 6 or 7. After repairs, go to next step.
  12. Use DVOM to measure resistance between breakout box terminal corresponding inoperative direction and terminal No. 36 (ground). If DVOM indicates zero resistance when switch is activated in suspect direction, go to step  2 . If any resistance is indicated when switch is activated, go to next step.
  13. Check for open between power seat switch and power seat control module. If circuits are okay, replace power seat switch. See POWER SEAT SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  14. Turn ignition off. Use DVOM to measure resistance between ground and connector "A" terminal No. 3. If DVOM indicates zero resistance, go to step  12 . If any resistance is indicated, go to next step.
  15. Check for open in circuit between controller and control module connector "A" terminal No. 3. After repairs, go to step  12 .
