System overview: Signals

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2006 Volvo S80, 2005 Volvo S80, 2004 Volvo S80, 2003 Volvo S80, and 2002 Volvo S80. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the suspension module (SUM). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals and CAN communication. The illustration below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.

Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
Acceleration sensor, suspension  (7/118, 7/119):
  • measures the speed of the vertical change of the front suspension.

Position sensor, suspension  (7/120, 7/121):
  • measures the vertical position of the rear suspension.

Acceleration sensor, body  (7/87, 7/88 7/89):
  • measures the speed of vertical change of the body.

Keypad  (3/225) (R-line):
  • for R-line, the "COMFORT", "SPORT" or "ADVANCED" driving modes can be selected.
Valve deployment, shock absorber  (8/20, 8/21, 8/22, 8/23):
  • power supply to the solenoids.

Keypad  (3/225) (R-line):
  • for R line, the selected driving mode is indicated.
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
Brake control module (BCM)  (4/16):
  • the vehicle speed
  • brake mode (ABS, DSTC, EBA)
  • brake pressure
  • actual and nominal yaw rate.

Engine control module (ECM)  (4/46):
  • engine running
  • desired engine torque
  • actual engine torque.

Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Module (SAS)  (4/68):
  • the position and speed of the steering wheel.

Central electronic module (CEM)  (4/56):
  • back-up gear
  • global parameters.

Climate Control Module (CCM)  (3/112):
  • the intensity of the keypad lighting via the twilight sensor (R line)
  • the signal from the switch (not R line).

Light Switch Module (LSM)  (3/111):
  • the intensity of the keypad lighting via a rheostat.
Driver information module (DIM)  (5/1):
  • a text message indicating that Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) is not working.

Engine control module (ECM)  (4/46):
  • selected driving mode.

Transmission Control Module (TCM)  (4/28):
  • selected driving mode.

Central electronic module (CEM)  (4/56):
  • from the rear position sensor, used for headlamp range adjustment for GDL lamps.
