Description

Software downloads to ECM/TCM might fail, and when the node status is checked in the network view in VIDA it can appear as if the TCM and/or the ECM are not responding. This is most often not the case and the software can be downloaded using the method described below.

Service

Always ensure that the Midtronics power supply is connected to the vehicle throughout the download procedure. Also ensure that VIDA and VCT2000/DiCE are updated to the latest versions of software and firmware.

If an ECM or TCM upgrade fails during the download the following steps should be taken without  paying attention to the status shown in the "Network" view in VIDA. Go to the "Software" view and follow the steps below.

  1. Purchase software product number 8691289 (TCM-reload)
  2. Go to Advanced tab under Software and click "Send Prog"
  3. Check if the ECM and TCM hardware numbers can be read. If the nodes can be read go to step  5, if not try first to re-read the node and if still not successful continue to step 4.
  4. Disconnect the power supply for the node that can't be read, reconnect and go back to step  3. (De-power by either pulling the fuse or disconnect the node. If you have an external power supply to the VCT2000 you can instead disconnect the ground cable at the battery. See External Power supply for VCT2000 and DiCE  for power supply specification)
  5. Close the Advanced screen, but do NOT send reset. (i.e., the car should remain in prog mode)
  6. Download the software package.
  7. If the download fails, a communication error screen will pop up. Just click "Yes" to retry.
  8. Repeat from step  2 until the software download is successful.
